Olivia Hajioff, Resident Soloist/Coach
Olivia Hajioff, a Fulbright scholar, was born in London. At the age of seven she was the youngest ever student to be accepted at the Royal Academy of Music. Olivia was a finalist in the European Violin Competition at the age of twelve and was a regional winner in the BBC Young Musician of the Year at seventeen. She gained her degree in violin performance at the Royal Northern College Of Music, under Lydia Mordkovitch. She received her Master’s and Doctoral degrees in performance and pedagogy at the University of Maryland with Daniel Heifetz.
Olivia taught violin and viola performance at Shenandoah University for twelve years before opening her own studio.
As a writer of adult and children’s poetry, Olivia has been published in 30 literary journals. She was the Grand Choice Winner of the Laura Jackson Poetry Competition, 2020. At age nine, her short story was televised as a children’s ballet on British television.
Olivia has toured regularly with Daniel Heifetz throughout the United States performing Bach's Double Violin Concerto amongst other works. She has performed solo and chamber recitals throughout Britain, Europe, Japan, Canada and the US. Venues include Wigmore Hall and the South Bank Centre (London); Cheltenham Festival;Paderewski Hall (Lausanne); Nagasaki National Shrine; Tokyo College of Music; Banff Centre (Canada); Merkin Hall and Symphony Space (NYC); Corcoran Gallery, National Gallery of Art, Phillips Collection and Kennedy Center (DC). Chamber music collaborators include Edgar Meyer; James Sommerville (Principal horn, Boston Symphony); David Owen Norris, Stephen Kovacevich and Awadagin Pratt. She has also performed with Led Zeppelin. Arnold Steinhardt (Guarneri Quartet) has described her as a “compelling performer”.
Olivia Hajioff and Marc Ramirez perform as the Marcolivia Duo - a violin and violin/viola duo performing regularly in recital and as double concerto soloists.
